Careers in Science

Sequoia Bears had an opportunity to learn more about many of the Careers in Science that abound in our area. Petroleum engineers, petrophysicists, and geologists from California Resource Corporation came to share their experiences and information about local geology, environmental stewardship, and drilling risks. Students were excited to see that careers in science could be meaningful, obtainable, and are available in close proximity to Shafter. To see some of the information that our students experienced, check out this information Power Point created by our own Third Grade teacher, Mr. Martinez. Career Day 052417 (1).pdf

Sequoia Family and Community

At Sequoia we are a family that supports one another and our community! For this reason our family events are always big hits and our students' seek ways to better serve their community. At Sequoia you can count on fun family occasions and opportunities to better our local community.

Journey to Success

Here at Sequoia we are making it our aim to ensure our students are  "Reaching New Heights on their Journey to Success". This means continuing to prepare them each year to meet the expectations of the California Common Core State Standards, so that they are ready for college and career in their futures. This year we we will also continue to place an emphasis on careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with our Project Lead the Way Program in GATE classrooms. We want students to know that there are many careers in the sciences that they have never heard of and even more that have not been created yet. Our students will set goals for their SBAC scores and their behavior. To support these goals, we have also established a positive behavior reinforcement program. Each week that classes have a "successful" behavior week, they get to have their team hot air balloon (designed by each class) on the "Journey to Success" wall in the cafeteria.

College Bound

College Bound

Once a month, as part of Sequoia's Journey to Success, we have a College Day on the Thursday before our Spirit Assembly. Students and staff wear their favorite college shirts, and university pennants line the courtyard. We are trying hard at Sequoia to reinforce the need for further education to support our students for college and career. Students have the opportunity to learn about a different featured university every College Day.This year some of our upper grade classes will be researching and constructing the presentations themselves. Our featured university presentations thus far are below:
