Principal Message

Sequoia Elementary School is now in year thirteen, serving students in grades K-6 in the Richland School District. Sequoia's students and staff are focused on academic excellence. We maintain high expectations for each student, striving for advanced proficiency on state standards at each grade level. Our philosophy is to treat each student as though he/she is our own child.

While achieving academic success is crucial to a student's future, it is also important that a student receives a well-rounded education.

Thus, Sequoia utilizes the Character Counts! program to emphasize character education. This program is based on the six pillars of character and teaches students to be: Trustworthy, Respectful, Responsible, Fair, Caring, and a good Citizen. Additionally, Sequoia's students focus on their futures by considering college and career on their "Journey to Success". This school wide incentive program focuses student attention on their futures and what academic achievements and behaviors will help them succeed. It also gives students opportunities to consider careers they would not have otherwise known about and colleges that are available to them.

Sequoia Elementary School serves a diverse community. We offer instruction in English Language Development and embedded intervention in both Mathematics and Language Arts, while maintaining our focus on challenging students to reach top academic levels. This year, we will be partnering with Chevron to bring Project Lead the Way to our GATE students. This sought after and coveted program immerses "students in hands-on activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the world around them."

Administrators and teachers at Sequoia Elementary School are committed to academic success for all students. Sequoia's staff works collaboratively; regularly meeting to assess student performance and discuss best practices utilizing the Cycle of Inquiry process. Our parents are also a critical component of our school family, as they participate in School Site Council, the English Language Advisory Committee, and volunteer in our classrooms daily.
